Bulldogs News · Freshman Dawgs Hold off Eufaula 14-8

Tonight the Eufaula Tigers prowled up hwy 431 and highway 169 to invade Bulldogs Stadium but the Dawgs were hunkered down and ready to defend their turf!

The Tigers won the opening coin toss and decided to take the ball, so the Dawgs kicker George Meyers sky-kicked to the Tigers 39 yard line and that is where game started. Eufaula would  actually have some success on their first drive as they moved the ball all the way to the Bulldogs 19 yard line before the Dawgs D forced a turnover on downs. The Dawgs took over and drove 63 yards before the drive stalled and we turned it over on downs. The Tigers took over at their own 22 yard line. The Dawgs sent the Tigers backwards on a sack by a pack of rabid Dawgs. The next play, Qualik Harry picked off the Tigers pass attempt and gave the hungry Dawgs a new set of downs that they would take advantage of. The Dawgs would drive in for the score– a three yard scamper by Kaden Cooper. George Meyers added the extra point and the Dawgs take a 7-0 lead that would last until halftime.

The second half saw the Dawgs take the opening kickoff and proceed to matriculate down the field for the Dawgs touchdown. The Dawgs offense ran right at the teeth and claws of the Tigers before pulling a little trickeration out of their back pocket. Jarius Goodman lined up at QB, ran to his left on a sweep, or so the Tigers thought, but Jarius pitched to Da’vion Johnson who was running right. The reverse gained us 46 yards and a Bulldogs 1st down. The very next play, Kaden Cooper ran like a man possessed, broke several would-be Tigers tackles and scampered 30+ yards for the Dawgs score. Meyers kicked the PAT and gave the Dawgs a 14-0 lead.

The Dawgs held that score late into the 4th quarter. Although we were driving for the end zone late, the Tigers slipped up and picked off our pass which gave the Tigers life and momentum. The Tigers used the momentum to dive 58 yards on the Dawgs defense and put it in the end zone. The Tigers would go for two and convert it as they ran the sweep around right end and broke a couple of Dawgs tackles. That made the score 14-8 Dawgs. Our offense would take back over after an onside attempt by the Tigers that was recovered by Jamaroun Satterwhite with three minutes left on the game clock. Our Offense would go on a short drive that saw us have to punt. Da’vion Johnson put a beauty off his foot that pinned Eufaula at their own 27 yard line. The Tigers offense was feeling pretty good about themselves, but the Dawgs Nasty D was not going to let the Tigers move. On the last play of the game, about 7 Dawgs defenders tackled the Eufaula quarterback for a loss of 9 yards as the clock expired. Final score: Dawgs 14-Eufaula 8.

The win pushes the Freshman Dawgs to 2-0 on the season. We will be on the road next week as we travel to Lagrange, Georgia to take on the LaGrange Grangers. Kickoff for Traylor Bowl 1 is set for 6:30 Eastern/5:30 Central. See you then and there! GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!
