Tonight the Freshman Bulldogs played host to the Central Freshman Red Devils in Bulldog Stadium on a balmy evening.
The Red Devils received the opening kickoff and were able to have a sustained drive before punching it in the end zone. The Devils attempted a two-point conversion that failed leaving the Dawgs behind 0-6. On the ensuing kickoff, Jarrell Stinson hauled in the kick and scampered right, then left and found a seam that he tore through and proceeded to go 80 yards for the score. The Dawgs PAT attempt fell short leaving the score tied at 6-6. The Devils offense took advantage of several Dawgs miscues to score twice more before the first half expired. When time did roll down to 0:00 and both teams headed into their respective locker rooms, the scoreboard read Dawgs 6, Central 22.
The second half saw the Dawgs take the opening kickoff . The offense came to life and Jarrell Stinson was able to put another score up for the Bulldogs. Our two-point conversion failed but the Dawgs had pulled a little closer. Score Dawgs 12, Central 22. On the Devils next drive, the defense bowed their backs. Taylor Love came up with a huge sack on 3rd down forcing the Devils to punt. The offense would then take advantage and drive down to score. This time the two-point conversion was good. Dawgs 20, Central 22. As the game is winding closer top a finish, the Dawgs defense once again stiffened and forced a Central punt. Dawgs had to go to work without a quarterback in the 4th quarter as QB1 for the Dawgs, Jackson Bates was the recipient of an illegal head-to-head tackle which forced him from the game. The resourceful Dawgs put Jarrell Stinson in a wildcat look and let him tote the rock. Stinson and the offense were moving the football to what looked like a go-ahead touchdown late in the game, but an extra-effort lunge caused the Dawgs to lose the football and Central recovered. The defense played hard, backing the Devils up on 1st and 2nd down, but on third and long, the Devils quarterback broke loose and outran the entire Dawgs D down the visitor sideline for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good. Final score: Dawgs 20- Central 30.
Our Dawgs will take their talents on the road again next week as we travel to Wetumpka to duel it out with the Indians.
See you there!!!! Go DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
